Hancock Softball Sinks Santa Monica 13-1 to Close Six-Game Road Trip

Maggie Dasis drove in three runs while Larrissa Ostrander and Isabella Partida had 2 RBI apiece to lead the Allan Hancock College softball team to a 13-1 win in five innings at Santa Monica Thursday afternoon. The Bulldogs improved to 2-1 in Western State Conference play and 8-2 overall.  Santa Monica dropped to 0-4 overall.

Freshman Hannah Diaz earned her first collegiate win with four innings of work. She allowed one run, one hit, three walks, and struck out four Corsairs. Shannon Peterson pitched a scoreless fifth to secure the five-inning win.

Hancock took the lead for good with three runs in the top of the first. Ostrander walked, stole second and third, and scored on a passed ball. Nakaila Fuggs walked, stole second and third, and scored on another pitch to the backstop to make it 2-0. Dasis walked and scored on sacrifice fly off the bat of Partida to cap a three-run frame. 

Santa Monica scored one in the bottom half for its only run of the game.

The Bulldogs added three more in the second when Christabel Chavez led off with a single and stole second. Ostrander ripped a ball in the gap and sped around the bases for an inside-the-park home run and 2 RBI to make it 5-1 Bulldogs. Fuggs followed with a triple and sprinted home on a sacrifice fly to left field from Dasis to give Hancock a 6-1 lead. Hancock added another in the third when Emily Gantt led off with a single. Pinch runner Desiree Lopez later scored on a single by Partida to make it 7-1 Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs put the game out of reach with six runs in the fifth. Nikole Cody, Ostrander and Dasis hit RBI-singles in the fifth. Peterson clubbed a RBI-double to fuel the rally.

Ostrander scored three times, drove in two and stole three bases. Dasis went 2-for-3 for the Bulldogs.

After a six-game road trip, Hancock will return to action Tuesday, March 7, with a doubleheader at home against Ventura.  The Pirates are 2-1 in league and 5-4 overall.
