Hancock Softball Enters Tie for First After 10-2 Conference Win at Oxnard

Sophomores Maggie Dasis and Larrissa Ostrander each drove in three runs to back Shannon Peterson, who threw a complete game, as the Allan Hancock College softball team opened a three-game, three-day road trip with a 10-2 conference win at Oxnard Thursday. The Bulldogs won their fifth straight game to improve to 5-1 in Western State Conference play and 11-2 overall. Oxnard fell to 2-6 in conference and 3-12 on the season. Hancock entered a tie for first place in the standings with Cuesta.

The Bulldogs did not waste much time getting on the scoreboard. Isabella Partida walked and stole second base. She later scored on a RBI-double to left-center field off the bat of Dasis. A groundball from Emily Gantt eventually allowed Dasis to score to give Hancock a 2-0 lead after the top of the first.

Hancock added three more in the second, two came on a groundball from Ostrander, the third on a sacrifice fly from Partida.

The Condors scored twice on two hits and an error in the bottom of the second to climb to within 5-2. The Bulldogs responded with four runs in the third to take a 9-2 lad. Ostrander delivered a RBI-single, Partida drove in another run on a fielder's choice, Dasis drew a bases-loaded walk to force in a run, and Myranda Morales hit a RBI-single.

Dasis went 2-for-2 with a walk, 3 RBI, a double and two stolen bases. Ostrander went 2-for-4 with a triple, 3 RBI and scored three times. Partida had two RBI, two stolen bases and scored twice. Nakaila Fuggs drew two walks and scored twice in the win.

Peterson allowed four hits, two runs, only one was earned, in a five-inning complete game to earn the win. She hit one Condor, but did not walk or strike out anyone along the way.

Hancock continues its road trip Friday with a 5:30 p.m. game at Riverside City College. The Tigers are 7-7 and will face Golden West prior to the Hancock game at 3 p.m. The Bulldogs complete their road trip at Mt. San Jacinto on Saturday.
