Hancock Softball Drops Non-Conference Game 8-1 to Citrus

Sophomore Mackenzie Caspian clubbed a RBI-double, but the Allan Hancock College softball team could not produce hits with runners in scoring position and dropped an 8-1 non-conference game to Citrus College on Tuesday. The Bulldogs fell to 8-13 overall, while the Owls evened their mark to 15-15.

Citrus scored twice in the first inning against Hancock starting pitcher Alexis Porter. Each run scored after consecutive Citrus hitters reached base after striking out. The Owls added four more in the second to build a 6-0 lead.

Hancock got on the board in the fourth when Zaiden Bakke walked and moved to second on a passed ball. With two outs, Caspian doubled home Bakke with the Bulldogs' first and only run of the game.

Citrus added two more runs in the seventh to cap the scoring.

Porter went 2-for-3 at the plate, including a double, to lead Hancock's five-hit attack. The freshman took the loss in the circle, allowing 12 hits, eight runs, six of them earned in seven innings.

Giavanna Muenz and Emily Paredez each had three hits to account for half of the Owls' 12 hits. Brooke Fuss added a two-run double.

Hancock resumes Western State Conference play at 2:30 PM Thursday, April 4, at home against Ventura.
