Bulldogs Drop 10-Inning Heartbreaker at Moorpark, 5-4

Sophomore Crystal Gonzalez and freshman Shaylyn Coy had two hits apiece, but the Allan Hancock College softball team let a 4-1 lead slip away and fell 5-4 in ten innings at Moorpark in a Western State Conference game on Tuesday. After suffering their second heartbreaking loss in the last week, Hancock fell to 9-20 on the season and 5-9 in conference games. Moorpark moved to 10-4 in league and 22-12 overall.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring in the third when Zaiden Bakke singled home Siana Castillo with the game's first run. Hancock pitcher Shaylyn Coy held Moorpark scoreless until the sixth when the Raiders tied it with a RBI-double by Deanna Villa with two outs.

Coy and Simmons exchanged zeroes until the tenth inning. With two outs and two on, Coy ripped a two-run double to give Hancock a 3-1 lead. Adiana Pacheco followed with a RBI-single to score Coy and give the Bulldogs a 4-1 lead.

Moorpark came to life in the bottom of the tenth. Simmons drove in a run and reached on a fielder's choice to start the scoring. With two outs, Aubrey Sutherland and Villa hit back-to-back RBI-triples to tie it at 4-4. First baseman Kylee Beccan ended it with a walk-off single to complete the four-run inning and overcome a three-run deficit.

Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with a double and two walks for the Bulldogs. Coy went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI, while five other Bulldogs had one hit apiece. Bakke and Pacheco each knocked in a run.

Coy took the loss after allowing 11 hits, five runs, four of them earned, in 9 2/3 innings. The freshman walked three and struck out five.

Four Raiders had two hits apiece. Villa went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and one double.

Hancock returns home for its final three home games of the season, hosting L.A. Pierce at 3 PM on Thursday afternoon and a doubleheader with L.A. Mission on Saturday at 1 and 3 PM.
