Six Hancock Softball Players Score All-Conference Honors, Gonzalez Named to First Team
Sophomore center fielder Crystal Gonzalez was named to the All-Western State Conference First Team for the second year in a row to lead a contingent of six Allan Hancock College softball players who received postseason accolades on Thursday. Sophomores Zaiden Bakke and Sabrina Ornelas, as well as freshman pitcher Shaylyn Coy were named to the Second Team. Freshman Jayden Andrade and sophomore Mackenzie Caspian received honorable mention.
Gonzalez (pictured below) led the Bulldogs in every major offensive category with a .406 batting average, .508 on-base percentage, 29 runs, 41 hits, 13 doubles, four triples, three home runs, 29 RBI, and 21 walks. The Righetti High School graduate finished her Hancock career with a lifetime .393 batting average, .526 on-base percentage, 23 doubles, six home runs, 64 RBI, and 48 walks.
Bakke finished second on the Bulldogs with a .374 batting average, 37 hits, and 23 RBI. An All-Conference First Team and All-Region selection as a freshman, the first baseman finished with a career .400 batting average with 47 RBI and 42 runs scored. Ornelas, who joined Bakke on the All-WSC Second Team, finished her sophomore season hitting .329 with 11 RBI, 20 runs scored, one triple, and a conference-leading 20 stolen bases. The Righetti High School graduate also walked 11 times to raise her on-base percentage to .433.

Coy threw 17 complete games in the circle for Hancock, winning nine games. She struck out 109 over 103 2/3 innings and posted a 3.96 ERA. The Templeton High School graduate ranked second in the conference in strikeouts. Coy also hit .299 at the plate with 16 RBI and four doubles.
Caspian, a Cabrillo High School graduate, and Andrade, a Lompoc High product, earned honorable mention. Caspian, a sophomore, hit. 264 with two home runs, 15 RBI, and scored 14 runs. Over two seasons with the Bulldogs, Caspian ended her career with a .287 average and 34 RBI. Andrade enjoyed a solid freshman campaign, hitting .288 with 19 runs scored, three doubles, three triples, and 12 RBI.

The Bulldogs finished the 2019 season tied for fifth in the Western State Conference's North Division with a 7-9 record. Hancock went 12-21 overall.
