Softball Splits Twinbill with Moorpark

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College softball team split with Moorpark College at home in a conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. AHC moves to 17-12 on the season thus far with a 9-4 mark against Western State Conference foes, while Moorpark falls to 9-24 overall (4-10 WSC).

The Bulldogs are set to continue action this afternoon with a road trip to face the lone undefeated WSC team, Ventura College, before battling through a five-game homestand to close out the regular season.

GAME ONE: MOORPARK 10, AHC 4 | BOX SCORE

Both teams got on the board early to open the day with the Raiders scoring one after a double to left center before Briana Munoz used a sacrifice fly to left to plate a runner. Danica Black pushed the Bulldogs ahead for a brief moment with a sacrifice fly that plated one in the fourth, but Moorpark bounced back with a nine-run rally over the next three frames. Mya Mendoza closed out the scoring with a two-run shot over the left field fence in the final inning, marking her fourth homer of the season.

Munoz was charged with the loss on the rubber after seven innings of action. She struck out one batter but surrendered seven earned runs while scattering 15 hits during her complete game performance.

GAME TWO: AHC 8, MOORPARK 6 | BOX SCORE

Moorpark scored early in the nightcap after notching one run after a hit up the middle of the field in the opening frame. Hancock bounced back with a five-run frenzy in the fourth inning to take the lead, sparked by a double to left center by Delayna Quezada that plated one. Xchelle Glidewell and Black drove in one run apiece before a single by Abigail Salazar sent two runners home before the inning came to a close. The Bulldogs posted three additional runs in the bottom of the sixth after a bases-loaded walk and a pair of RBI singles by Mendoza and Madison Gamble. The Raiders attempted to mount a comeback in the top of the seventh after rattling off five runs of their own but fell short on the come-from-behind attempt.

Quezada picked up her fourth win of the year after a complete game in the circle. She struck out six batters and surrendered six earned runs after scattering 10 hits.
