Softball: Bulldogs Best Riverside on Sophomore Day

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College softball team pulled off a 7-4 victory over Riverside City College on Saturday afternoon at the AHC Softball Field. | BOX SCORE

Prior to the game, the Bulldogs honored a group of nine sophomores that will be moving on to the next level after the conclusion of the 2023 campaign. The group of honorees included Abigail Salazar, Lisette Coria, Lauren Swing, Mya Mendoza, Briana Munoz, Alexia Jarez-Wilhite, Antoinette Terrones, Xchelle Glidewell, and Madison Gamble

Hancock (20-13) got on the board early after a lengthy delay in play after a single to right by Munoz plated a pair. The Guadalupe native plated another runner with a shot down the right field line in the third while the Tigers (14-23) and Danica Black scored one tally apiece in the fourth. Riverside evened the odds in the fifth frame after mounting a three-run rally, but the Bulldogs surged ahead in the bottom of the inning with a sacrifice fly from Munoz and an RBI single through the right side by Delayna Quezada. Coria plated the final runner of the day in the bottom of the sixth with a single to center field.

Quezada earned the start and collected her fifth win of the season in the circle. The Arroyo Grande High School alum struck out four batters and surrendered four earned runs on six hits. Black twirled the final two innings, where she scattered two hits and punched out one batter.

The Bulldogs are set to return to action on Monday, April 24th, with another non-conference contest against West Hills College (Coalinga) at home. The game is scheduled to begin at 12 PM on the AHC Softball Field and single-game tickets can be purchased here. As per usual, the ticketing gate will be cashless and fans are strongly encouraged to purchase their tickets prior to arrival, but credit/debit card purchases can be made at the gate.
