No. 16 Softball Closes Season at SoCal Regional Tournament

SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The No. 16-seeded Allan Hancock College softball team saw its season come to an end on Saturday afternoon after falling to No. 1 Palomar College in the Southern California Regional Tournament. The Bulldogs finish the season with an overall record of 23-16 after a pair of road losses to the top seed in the best-of-three series, while the Comets move to 38-1 on the year.

Palomar put game one away handily with a perfect game that ended in a 10-0 loss for AHC after five innings of play. Coach Maumausolo's squad bounced back in game two as the designated home team and forced the Comets to compete in a full seven-inning contest for the first time in their last 10 outings, snapping a streak of nine straight wins shortened by the mercy-run rule for the hosts.

Abigail Salazar, Hancock's leadoff hitter, got on base after being hit by a pitch. Briana Munoz moved her to second with a fielder's choice before Delayna Quezada drove in the squad's lone run of the weekend with a two-out RBI. The Bulldogs held a brief 1-0 lead after the first frame, marking the first time Palomar has trailed at home in 20 games. The Comets evened the odds in the second frame after scoring on an AHC error before rattling off a seven-run rally over the next six innings to secure the win.

Lisette Coria and Munoz added singles to the team's hit totals while Xchelle Glidewell recorded one double in her final appearance for the Bulldogs. Quezada was charged with the loss in the circle after 4.1 innings of work. Danica Black also appeared on the rubber but did not factor into the final decision.
