Softball's Abigail Salazar Headed to Cal State Fullerton

FULLERTON, Calif. - Allan Hancock College sophomore softball infielder, Abigail Salazar, will continue her academic and athletic career next season as a preferred walk-on with the Cal State Fullerton program.

"There are a few big reasons why I chose Cal State Fullerton. One of the main reasons is that it has been on my top list of schools since high school, not only for softball but also for academics as well. It also isn't too far from home and I have family that lives around that area, so that's a plus too," Salazar shared. "Being given the opportunity to continue my career at a Division I program is something that every athlete dreams about. The Fullerton softball program is so successful and supportive with a family-like atmosphere that I feel will make these last two years of softball very memorable."

Salazar, a graduate of Ernest Righetti High School, completed her final season in a Bulldogs uniform this month. The two-time First Team All-Conference selection led the team this season with 24 stolen bases, now ranking her 9th amongst all CCCAA competitors, while working towards a .523 on-base percentage. Throughout her career at Hancock, Salazar has totaled 38 RBIs on 82 hits while boasting a .371 batting average.

"Spending two years here at Hancock has been nothing but beneficial. I can honestly say that choosing to stay at AHC to continue my softball career over going straight to a four-year school, strictly for academics, was one of the best decisions I could have made," Salazar added. "Coach Scia and her coaching staff have helped me tremendously with improving my skill and shifting my mindset for the next level. Aside from softball, I think the best part of being at Hancock was being able to build so many amazing relationships and make some of the best memories I'll ever have with my teammates."

The Titans are a Division I member of the NCAA and compete in the Big West Conference.
