Bulldogs fall to Cougars in championship game of Cuesta Tournament

The Allan Hancock College women's basketball team battled, but fell 79-67 to their rivals from Cuesta College in the championship game of the Cougars' tournament. The loss snapped the Bulldogs' five-game winning streak and dropped Hancock's record to 6-2. Cuesta stay undefeated and improved to 8-0.

Three Bulldogs scored 12 or more points led by freshman Ali Rodriguez. The Pioneer Valley High School graduate led Hancock with 16 points and made three of her four shots from three-point range. She also dished out six assists. Sophomore Davina J. Valerio scored a season-high 15 points to go with seven rebounds and four assists. Justine Roland added 12 points to go with seven rebounds. 

Celina Calderon poured in eight points, while Emma Weinreich and Veronica Sua finished six points apiece.

Rodriguez and Roland were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Bulldogs and Cougars could renew their rivalry next week when Hancock hosts the Lady Bulldog Classic. The three-day tournament opens next Thursday, Dec. 12 and runs through the 14th. Hancock's first game is at 7 p.m. on Thursday against Lassen.
