Bulldog Women's Basketball Loses at L.A. Pierce

Despite 21 points from Ali Rodriguez, the Allan Hancock College women's basketball team dropped a 96-68 Western State Conference game at L.A. Pierce on Saturday. The Bulldogs, who have lost five in a row, dropped to 2-8 in WSC action and 12-13 overall. It marks the first time all season under first-year head coach Cary Nerelli the Hancock women are under the .500 mark.

Pierce improved to 3-8 in conference and 15-13 overall. The Brahmas scored revenge for an earlier loss at Hancock where the Bulldogs overcame a six-point second half deficit to snap a 14-game conference losing streak.

Rodriguez, a freshman, was 8 for 16 in the game, including a 3 for 9 effort from 3-point range. The Pioneer Valley High School graduate added seven assists and four rebounds. Celina Calderon and Nicole DeLaGuerra added 10 points apiece. 

Veronica Sua added 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds for the Bulldogs. The sophomore was 6 for 9 from the field. Justine Roland was limited to 7 points and four rebounds. 

Sophomore Emma Weinreich missed her second straight game due to a concussion suffered during the Cuesta game.

Hancock made 26 of its 63 shots from the field for a .412 shooting percentage. The Bulldogs went 5 for 16 for a .312 percentage from 3-point range. Hancock also made 12 of its 15 free throw shots.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, Feb.19, in their final home game of the season. Hancock hosts Santa Barbara at 5 p.m. The team will honor its sophomores prior to the conference game.
