Hancock Captures Consolation Title with 70-58 Win Over Victor Valley

Ali Rodriguez buried five three-pointers and Nicole De La Guerra made all six of her shots from the floor as the Allan Hancock College women's basketball team captured the consolation championship at the Cuesta Invitational with a 70-58 win over Victor Valley on Saturday afternoon. 

The Bulldogs won their second straight game to improve to 4-5 overall. Victor Valley dropped to 2-7.

The Bulldogs carried a 39-23 lead into halftime and never looked back.

Rodriguez, coming off a 29 point-effort on Friday, scored 22 points. She made five of her nine shots from three-point range and all five of her free throws. She dished out nine assists for the second game in a row, tying her career-high.The Pioneer Valley High School graduate was named to the All-Tournament Team.

De La Guerra, a fellow Pioneer Valley High School graduate and sophomore guard, finished with 13 points. She added four rebounds and four assists.

Sophomore Celina Calderon added 10 points on three of six shooting from the field, while Tashara Pruett, another Lompoc High School graduate, scored eight points.

Freshman Michaila Miller added eight points and four rebounds, while Jazmine Cooks pulled down seven rebounds.

Hancock shot 49 percent from the floor on 25 for 51 shooting, including a 54 percent mark from three-point territory (7-13). The Bulldogs made 13 of their 18 free throws for a 72 percent clip. As a team, the Bulldogs dished out 17 assists and swiped seven steals in the victory.
The Bulldogs host their own tournament next week. The 16th annual Lady Bulldog Classic tips off on Thursday, Dec. 11, in Joe White Memorial Gymnasium. Hancock plays the Santa Maria All-Stars in the opener at 5 p.m.

Once again, Hancock is teaming up with Toys for Tots. Fans will receive a tournament pass for access to all the games if they bring an unwrapped toy worth at least $10 to the door. All the toys will go to children in need on the Central Coast.
