Bulldogs Finish Preseason With 65-39 Win at Hartnell

Led by a 17-point effort from Ali Rodriguez, the Allan Hancock College women's basketball team opened 2015 with a dominant 65-39 win at Hartnell on Friday. The Bulldogs finished their preseason schedule with an 8-8 record, while Hartnell dropped to 0-13.

The Bulldogs built a 38-19 lead at halftime behind 13 points in the first half from Rodriguez. The sophomore guard hit three three-point buckets in the opening 20 minutes. She finished the game seven for 14 from the field, including three of six from three-point range. The Pioneer Valley High School graduate added six assists, two steals and three rebounds.

Freshman post player Tashara Pruett added 10 points and eight rebounds. She was four for nine from the floor. Leana Araujo, a freshman guard, scored a career-high eight points, all of which came in the second half. Marissa Torres, Celina Calderon and Nicole De La Guerra added six points apiece. Calderon had six assists and five rebounds.

Hancock pulled down 35 rebounds and dished out 18 assists. The team combined to collect nine steals.

Hancock shot 51 percent from the field (26 for 53) and hit 50 percent of its 10 three-point shots. The Bulldogs were six of seven from the free throw line.

The Bulldogs open Western State Conference play at home on Wednesday, Jan. 7, at 7 p.m. against Moorpark College. The Hancock men battle Moorpark at 5 p.m. Both games will be in Joe White Memorial Gymnasium.
