Despite Career-High 24 From Ramirez, Bulldogs Drop Tight Battle With West Hills Lemoore 59-56

Despite a career-high 24 points from freshman Syenna Ramirez, the Allan Hancock College women's basketball team dropped a back-and-forth battle with West Hills Lemoore 59-56 on Saturday evening in Joe White Memorial Gymnasium.

Hancock fell to 1-1, while West Hills improved to 2-0.

Ramirez, a St. Joseph High School graduate, made eight of her 17 shots from the floor, including one of four from three-point range. She also hit seven of nine free throw attempts to go with four rebounds and four assists. 

Marissa Torres finished with nine points, five assists and two steals, while Destinee Garcia had eight points, a team-high six rebounds, along with two assists and two steals. Sophomore Ashley Daher and Michaila Miller added six and five points respectively.

Freshman guard Ne'Chelle Martinez came off the bench to add five rebounds and two points. 

Hancock shot 34.5 percent from the field on 20 for 58 shooting. The Bulldogs were four for 18 from three-point range and drained 12 of 16 shots from the free throw line. West Hills shot 48 percent (24 for 52) and sank just 10 of its 21 free throw attempts.

Hancock pulled down 31 rebounds to West Hills' 41.

The Bulldogs trailed 26-25, but took a 45-42 lead with less than 10 minutes to go in the game. West Hills went on 11-0 run to regain control at 53-45 and held on for the win.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Taft College. Tipoff will be at 6 p.m.
