Hancock Women Fall 58-47 in Semifinals to Lassen

Despite a career-high 19 points and 14 rebounds from freshman Kelly McClain, the Allan Hancock College women's basketball team saw its seven-game winning streak end with a 58-47 loss to Lassen on Friday evening in the semifinals of the Lady Bulldog Classic. Hancock dropped to 8-2 overall, while Lassen improved to 7-6 and advanced into the Saturday's championship game against undefeated Siskiyous.

Hancock will face Saddleback in the third place game at 3 p.m. on Saturday inside Joe White Memorial Gymnasium. Saddleback (5-6) lost 90-57 to Siskiyous, the fourth ranked team in California.

McClain made eight of her 23 shots from the floor and pulled down five offensive and nine defensive rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Freshman guard Syenna Ramirez finished with 13 points. The St. Joseph High School graduate made four of her 10 shots from the floor, including two of five from three-point range.

The Bulldogs made 31 percent of their shots from the floor on 17 for 54 shooting. Hancock sank just two of 11 from three-point range and 11 of 23 free throw shots. The Bulldogs committed 33 turnovers which led to 26 Lassen points.

Lassen shot 32 percent overall on 22 for 68 shooting. Celine Bethel led Lassen with 16 points, while Mikailia Bustamante added 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Earlier in the evening, Siskiyous improved to 10-0 with a 90-57 win over Saddleback in the other semifinal on Thursday. Siskiyous is ranked second in the North Region and fourth overall in the state. Melissa Dailey led the way with a game-high 30 points.

Monterey will play Barstow in the consolation final at 1 p.m. Monterey defeated Gavilan 42-25 behind 12 points and 11 rebounds from Lillian Dawkins.
