
Hancock Women Remain Ranked No. 13 in South Region
The Allan Hancock College women's basketball team remains ranked No. 13 in the latest California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association's South Region Poll. At 9-2, Hancock is off to its best start in at least 20 years. The Bulldogs finished third over the weekend at their annual Lady Bulldog Classic.
The top five teams in the south remained the same with Mt. San Antonio College (10-1) at the top, followed by Mt. San Jacinto (9-0), Long Beach (9-1), Palomar (7-2) and Ventura College (9-3). Mt. SAC is ranked first in the state poll, Mt. San Jacinto is second, LBCC is fifth, Ventura is sixth and Palomar is ninth in California.
The Bulldogs still lead the state in team defense allowing 40.5 points per game, which is the lowest in the state by three points per game. Hancock opponents have made just 22.6 percent of their three-point shots, which is the seventh lowest percentage in the state.
Hancock will compete in the Monterey Classic hosted by Monterey Peninsula College. Hancock opens play Thursday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. against Los Medanos. Gavilan, Siskiyous, American River, Lassen, Mendocino and Monterey round out the eight-team field.
College of the Siskiyous is 11-0 and ranked second in the North Region and fourth in the state. Siskiyous won the Lady Bulldog Classic championship over the weekend. American River College is 8-2 and ranked 12th in the North Region.
