No. 13 Hancock Women Rout Los Medanos 84-43 to Open Monterey Tournament

Syenna Ramirez scored 20 points and was one of five Bulldogs to score 10 or more points as the Allan Hancock College women's basketball team opened the Monterey Classic Tournament with an 84-43 win over Los Medanos on Thursday afternoon. The Bulldogs, who are ranked No. 13 in the South Region, improved to 10-2, while Los Medanos dropped to 0-7.

Hancock sprinted out to an early lead and led 25-17 after the first quarter and carried a 50-26 lead into halftime. Hancock outscored Los Medanos 22-8 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.

Ramirez led all scorers with 20 points and sank four three-pointers. The freshman added five steals, three assists and three rebounds.

Destinee Garcia had 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals for Hancock.

Sophomore guard Marissa Torres, a Templeton High School graduate, added 10 points, six rbeounds, six assists and two steals. Freshman Ne'Chelle Martinez scored a career-high 11 points and had three steals.

Fellow freshman Kaelah Mundley scored a career-high seven points and grabbed a career-high nine boards.  She helped the Bulldogs finish with 41 rebounds overall, including 16 offensive boards.

The Bulldogs made 57 percent of their shots from the floor (36 for 67). They also compiled 20 assists and 15 steals.

Hancock advances to the championship semifinals where the Bulldogs will face either Gavilan (2-6) or undefeated Siskiyous (11-0) on Friday at 5 p.m. Siskiyous won the Lady Bulldog Classic last weekend and is ranked fourth in the state and second in the North Region.

With 10 wins in their first 12 games, the Bulldogs have reached double-digit wins for the third straight year under head coach Cary Nerelli. The last time the program won 10 or more games in three straight seasons was between 2000-2003.
