Hancock Women Finish Fourth at Monterey Tournament After 55-42 Loss to Monterey

Despite 17 points from Syenna Ramirez, the Allan Hancock College women's basketball team dropped a 55-42 decision to host Monterey Peninsula College in the third place game at Monterey's tournament on Saturday afternoon. Hancock fell to 10-4 overall, while Monterey improved to 5-8.

Ramirez scored 10 points and Destinee Garcia had six points in the first quarter to give the Bulldogs an 18-10 lead. Hancock carried a 29-18 lead into the half.

Monterey dominated the second half and outscored Hancock 22-7 in the third quarter and 15-6 in the fourth to earn third place at its own tournament. Daniela Villegas led all scorers with 23 points and four steals.

Ramirez finished with 17 points, four steals, three rebounds and three assists. Garcia had 13 points, three rounds and two assists.

Ne'Chelle Martinez added five points, and Kelly McClain had four rebounds and three points.

Hancock made 15 of its 35 shots from the field (43 percent), and nine of its 14 free throws (64 percent).

Monterey shot 36 percent from the floor, and made 11 of its 15 free throws.

The Bulldogs will return to action on January 2, 2016, when they play at Hartnell College.
