No. 14 Hancock Women Close Preseason with 63-41 Win at Hartnell

Syenna Ramirez scored a team-high 15 points and Destinee Garcia recorded a double-double as the Allan Hancock College women's basketball team opened 2016 with a 63-41 win at Hartnell on Saturday. The Bulldogs, who are ranked No. 14 in the South Region, improved to 11-4 and Hartnell fell to 4-8. 

Hancock led 23-14 after the first quarter behind 10 points from Ramirez. The Bulldogs carried a 34-26 lead into halftime. Ramirez, a St. Joseph High School graduate, scored 13 points and Marissa Torres added seven in the first 20 minutes. 
Garcia came alive in the third quarter. The freshman scored 10 points in the quarter as the Bulldogs outscored the Panthers 19-9 to carry a 53-35 lead into the final quarter. 
Garcia finished with 14 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and four steals. 
The Bulldogs outscored Hartnell 29-15 over the final 20 minutes of the game. 
Kelly McClain added seven points and 10 rebounds for Hancock along with three steals. 
Ramirez made six of 14 shots overall and dished out six assists. 
Torres finished with eight points for the Bulldogs. 
Hancock opens Western State Conference play on Wednesdsy, January 6 at home against Santa Barbara City College. The women play at 5 p.m. and the men follow at 7.
