
Hancock Women's Basketball Ranked No. 13 in South Region Poll
After winning seven straight games, the Allan Hancock College women's basketball team has entered into the Top 15 in Southern California. The Bulldogs are ranked No. 13 in this week's California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association South Region Poll.
East Los Angeles (11-1), Mt. San Antonio (13-1), Mt. San Jacinto (12-1), Palomar (10-2), Pasadena City College (13-3), and Ventura (10-5) are the top six teams in the South Region.
Hancock is off to a 9-3 start this season. The Bulldogs are coming off a runner-up finish at the Monterey Classic where they fell in the championship to College of the Siskiyous, the No. 5 team in California and winners of 15 straight games. Hancock's seven-game winning streak included a championship run at a tournament hosted by Cuesta College. Cuesta is ranked No. 14 in this week's poll.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 28, when they face Orange Coast at a tournament hosted by Ventura College. Orange Coast is 9-4 and ranked No. 12 in the South Region. Freshman center Grace Rosa (Paso Robles HS) is the team's top scorer at 11.9 points per game, followed by freshman guard Taylor Lee-Hammer at 11.5 points. Destinee Garcia (Garces HS) and Karly Beyers (Pioneer Valley HS) rank third at 9.5 points. Naomi Leopardi leads the team with 10 rebounds per game, followed by Rosa and Garcia averaging 7.3.
The last time Hancock was ranked was in January 2016 when the Bulldogs were ranked No. 14.
