PLAYOFF BOUND: No. 16 Women's Basketball Set to Host No. 17 Victor Valley in Round One of SoCal Regional Playoffs

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The season is still very much alive for the Allan Hancock College women's basketball program after receiving a playoff slot in the 2022 CCCAA Women's Basketball Championship field. They will host Victor Valley College in round one of the Southern California Regionals on Tuesday, March 1st. Tip-off for the event is set for 6 PM inside of the Joe White Memorial Gymnasium. | FULL BRACKET

This marks the third playoff berth for Hancock during Coach Nerelli's tenure, with previous appearances being made in 2017 and 2020. The Bulldogs were awarded the No. 16 seed after securing an overall record of 17-11 in the regular season, which includes one forfeit win due to COVID-related issues with an opposing team. Nerelli's squad is ranked 19th in the state for limiting opponents to 56.3 points per game while averaging their own scoring mark of 63.7 per contest. The Bulldogs will enter postseason action with three members averaging double figures: Jayci Bayne (20.6), Kayla Taylor (11.5), and Alexandria Paquet (10.0). Carlissa Solorio leads the team with 8.4 rebounds per game, followed by 8.2 per contest for both Jewelia Maniss and Taylor.

Victor Valley was tabbed as the No. 17 seed and will be traveling to Santa Maria with an overall record of 20-7. The Rams collected four forfeit wins due to COVID-related issues with opponents in the regular season. Victor Valley enters the playoffs after winning five straight games to close out the regular season and finishing second in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference. They average 75.7 points per game and lead the state in two categories: field goal percentage (46.1) and steals per game (18.4).

Fans planning to attend the event in-person will be required to show proof of a recent (i.e. within three days) negative COVID test or proof of vaccination prior to entry into the facility. Please note that season and/or conference passes are not valid for postseason events. 

The winner of Tuesday's contest will advance to round two, where they will face No. 1-seeded Mt. San Antonio College on the road.
