Women's Basketball Tops LA Harbor, 57-41

WILMINGTON, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College women's basketball program picked up a road victory after topping LA Harbor College in a 57-41 decision on Saturday afternoon. | BOX SCORE

The Bulldogs (2-0) built an early lead after outscoring the hosts 19-6 in the opening frame and remained in control throughout the contest. Hancock's largest lead of the day came in the third frame after back-to-back shots by Mya Mendoza and Chloe Blankenship put the visitors ahead by 20.

Both teams struggled to find offensive efficiency after hovering around 30 percent shooting from the field, but Coach Scott's squad dominated on the boards with a 62-37 rebounding advantage over the Seahawks (0-2). Hancock saw a significant improvement from the charity stripe after going 12-for-17 (70.6 percent) but struggled with possession security after turning the ball over 25 times.

Four Bulldogs ended the game in double figures, led by a 16-point performance from Blankenship. Kayla Taylor followed with a stat-stuffing performance that featured 14 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and one steal. India Dowling-Green also performed well in the paint and finished the game with a new career-high mark of 13 boards. Mallory Branum and Mendoza rounded out the top scorers with 11 points and 10 points, respectively.

Hancock will continue the non-conference slate with a weekend trip to Monterey Peninsula College to compete in the Monterey Crossover. The first game of the two-day event will take place against the hosting Lobos on Friday, November 11th.
