Women's Basketball Stretches Win Streak to Four with Productive Weekend at Monterey Crossover

MONTEREY, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College women's basketball team picked up a pair of wins while competing in the two-day Monterey Crossover event, hosted by Monterey Peninsula College, on Friday and Saturday. 

GAME ONE: AHC 60, MONTEREY PENINSULA 41 | BOX SCORE

The Bulldogs opened the event with a 60-41 victory over the hosting Lobos on Friday evening. Coach Scott's squad jumped out early with a 16-6 lead in the first quarter and cruised to victory through the final three frames. As a team, Hancock shot just shy of 40 percent from the field while converting 30 Lobos turnovers for 17 points on the opposite end of the floor. 

Three members of the AHC crew finished the contest in double figures, led by 12 points apiece from Chloe Blankenship and Kayla Taylor. Taylor also led the Bulldogs in the paint with a pair of team-high marks after registering four blocks and five rebounds. Mallory Branum added 10 points to the mix while Gieselle Calderon chipped in with eight points and eight assists. 

GAME TWO: AHC 74, SAN MATEO 53 | BOX SCORE

The Bulldogs used a strong 22-10 opening quarter to set the tone early on Saturday and held the lead throughout the game. San Mateo won the battle of the boards with a slim 41-38 advantage, but Hancock's defensive pressure forced 25 turnovers that were converted for 25 points. 

Offensive production was spread for the AHC squad as nearly five members ended the event in double digits. Calderon led the way with a season-high mark of 19 points, followed by a double-double after 17 points and 10 rebounds from Blankenship. Mya Mendoza rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points off the bench while India Dowling-Green and Taylor chipped in nine tallies apiece. 

The Bulldogs are set to return to action with a two-day showing at the Palomar Crossover on Friday and Saturday. The first game of the two-day event will take place against the hosting Comets on Friday, November 18th.
