Women's Basketball Secures Playoff Spot after Upset at Ventura

VENTURA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College women's basketball team clinched a berth to the 2024 Southern California Regional Tournament after upsetting Ventura College on Friday evening. The Bulldogs were tabbed as the No. 18 seed and will travel to face No. 15 Antelope Valley College in Lancaster on Wednesday, February 28th. This marks the fourth consecutive postseason appearance for Hancock after also qualifying for regionals in 2023, 2022, and 2020. The Bulldogs clinched a share of the runner-up spot in the WSC North standings after pulling off a 56-42 victory over the Pirates in the regular season finale. Coach Smith's squad pulled away in the fourth quarter by outscoring VC, 23-7, after rattling off a 16-2 scoring streak in the final five minutes of the frame.

Hancock showcased a balanced scoring effort in the true team victory, led by 14 points and nine rebounds from India Dowling-Green. Giselle Calderon followed with 13 points on the night, nine of which came down the stretch in the fourth quarter. Khaelii Robertson-Mack and Mallory Branum rounded out the double figure scorers with 11 tallies apiece. Robertson-Mack also hauled in nine rebounds. 

The winner of Wednesday's contest will advance to round two and will face No. 2-seeded Moorpark College on Saturday, March 2nd.
