
Women's Basketball: Bulldogs Drop Heartbreaker to Cuesta, 69-68
SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College women's basketball team fell in heartbreaking fashion to local rival Cuesta College in a home conference showing on Saturday afternoon. | BOX SCORE
The back-and-forth contest saw 10 lead changes and nine ties through the four-quarter affair. The Bulldogs (6-12, 1-1 WSC) held a slim six-point lead at the intermission and eventually saw that advantage extend to 11 with just over seven minutes remaining in the third frame before the Cougars (10-6, 1-0 WSC) began to mount a comeback. Cuesta rattled off a 9-0 run near the end of the quarter, eventually knotting the score at 50-50 before time expired.
Teams continued to exchange baskets in the final frame, with the visiting crew holding a four-point advantage with less than 10 seconds to go. Maggie Perez brought the home squad within one after a successful shot from distance in the final seconds. Hancock quickly capitalized on the other end with a steal by Bree Luna after a jump ball situation, but the go-ahead attempt fell short as the buzzer sounded.
Khaelii Roberston-Mack led the way for the program with 22 points while also adding seven rebounds, three blocks, three steals, and two assists to her stat line. Luna followed with 10 points and six boards while Katy Mathews chipped in 10 points and nine rebounds.
The Bulldogs are set to return to action on Wednesday, January 15th, on the road against LA Mission College for another Western State Conference (North) contest. That game is scheduled to tip-off at 6 PM in Sylmar.
