
Women's Basketball Falls at Santa Barbara, 73-59
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College women's basketball team fell to Santa Barbara City College on Saturday afternoon, 73-59, after suffering through a third quarter slump and committing a season-high of 34 turnovers. | BOX SCORE
The game started off with a tightly contested first half as the two teams were tied at 16 apeice after the first frame and the hosting Vaqueros (21-5, 9-2 WSC) led by just four at the intermission. Santa Barbara pulled away from the Bulldogs (10-17, 5-6 WSC) in the third quarter with a 24-point showing while limiting Hancock to just nine. Coach Smith's squad managed to scramble together a late push in the final frame, but the large lead proved to be insurmountable.
Both teams closed out the evening with a +40 percent finish from the field and struggled from distance. Santa Barbara (47.0%) was a chilly 8-for-24 from beyond the arc while Hancock (41.5%) finished with a 2-for-8 mark from three-point land. AHC did manage to outrebounds the Vaqueros by four and scored 10 on second chance opportunities.
The Bulldogs were led by Khaelii Robertson-Mack, who posted a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Katy Mathews added 11 points, followed by seven off the bench from Gifti Tefera.
Hancock will return home on Wednesday, February 19th, for the regular season finale against Ventura College. That game is set to tip-off at 5 PM inside of the Joe White Memorial Gymnasium.
