Women's Soccer Team Breaks School Record, Six Players Named All-Conference

            With a 3-2 victory over Cuesta College in the last game of the season, the Allan Hancock College women’s soccer team achieved their goal of a record-breaking season. The team finished 10-9-1 overall, beating the previous record of nine wins in a single season by a Hancock women’s soccer team.

     “Our positive results this season were a result of the quality, skill and determination of our athletes,” said head coach Rod Garcia.

       In addition to breaking the school record for most wins the 2011 squad had a 6-4-4 conference record and finished the season ranked third in the Western State Conference.  
Six Hancock athletes received All-Conference honors. Mallory Lowers (Fr. Righetti) and Sierra Duarte (Fr. Righetti) were named first team All-Conference. Lowers led the team in scoring with 10 goals and eight assists and was closely followed by Duarte with 10 goals and seven assists.
    
    Heather Soden (Fr. Righetti) and Penelope Toogood (Fr. St. Joseph) were named second team All-Conference and Dana Leyva (Fr. Nipomo) and Arielle Oliver (Fr. Lompoc) received honorable mention. Soden scored five goals and had five assists and Toogood anchored the Bulldog’s defense.

    “Our players have demonstrated that they are among the elite in the conference,” Garcia said. “We’re looking forward to next season and the return of all of our All-Conference players.”
