Women's Soccer Team Ready For Conference Play

With yesterday's 3-0 victory over West L.A., and a decisive 7-0 victory over Cerro Coso last Saturday, the women's soccer team is building confidence as they head into conference play. "Our last couple games we saw our team perform very well and do more than just hold their own," said head coach Rod Garcia.

The consecutive shut-outs included strong performances by a number of Bulldogs. Freshman Barbara Ortiz had the first "hat trick" of the season by scoring three goals against Cerro Coso. Additionally, Danielle Robertson and Corina Posada each recorded a goal and an assist. Itzy Pinon had two goals and four assists.

At West L.A. Robertson again scored and contributed one assist. Also scoring were freshman Cecy Castillo and Yuri Roman. Pinon continued to make an impact by scoring one goal and one assist. She leads the team on the season with five goals and six assists. Strong contributions were also made by goalkeeper Renee Block and sophomore standout Marykate Smith. "Both of these games saw continual improvement and speaks volumes for the future," Garcia said.

The Bulldogs close out the pre-season with a record of 2-3-2. They begin conference play on the road against Cuesta College on Monday, Oct. 1 at 4p.m.
