Hancock Ties Conference Leader Cuesta

Hancock Ties Conference Leader Cuesta

The Allan Hancock College women's soccer team posted its fourth draw of the season after a 1-1 performance against Cuesta College on Friday, October 11. The tie was enough to put the Bulldogs back in the top 15 of the CCCAA power points rankings. The team now sits at 5-4-4 on the season and Cuesta continues to lead the conference at 10-1-1. The women's team sits at third in the conference with a 1-1-1 record.

In the 43rd minute Cuesta took the lead after a Hancock own goal. Hancock ended the half out-shooting Cuesta 6-5 and had more shots on goal 5-1.

In the 54th minute the Bulldogs earned the goal back when midfielder Hannah Montalban scored off an Elizabeth Aldana assist. The goal is Montalban's third of the season and she holds the team's third best shooting percentage at .231.

Cuesta ended the game tying Hancock in shots 11-11, but Hancock maintained the shot on goal lead 10-3. Hancock's defense was critical in the tie. Hancock went into the game knowing defense would be key to stop Cuesta's leading scorer and the states second place goal leader.

With defense being the key to success, Jennifer Perez's performance while defending the number two scorer in the state earned her the Bulldog player of the game honors.

The Bulldogs will be on the road Tuesday, Oct. 15, in Santa Barbara when they take on the 4-6-1 Santa Barbara CIty College Vaqueros. Be sure to follow Bulldog athletics on the website or on social media at ahcbulldogs on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
