Cynthia Ramirez Named as National Junior College Player of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Allan Hancock College women's soccer freshman, Cynthia Ramirez, has been honored as the United Soccer Coaches Association Junior College Women's Player of the Week for the week ending September 24. She becomes the first on record to receive the national award in program history.

The award comes after the freshmen midfielder led her team to a 9-0 victory over Foothill and a 1-1 draw with Hartnell College. Ramirez scored a pair in the first half and closed the game with five goals on the day in the showing against Foothill, leaving her tied with the school record single-game goals mark that was set by Bonnie Zuniga in 2016 for the second time this season. Ramirez also set up the goal that tied the Hartnell contest with a corner kick to the far post.

The Arroyo Grande native has accumulated 21 goals and 46 points on the season, placing her at the top of the list for both statistical categories ahead of all CCCAA and NJCAA Division III women's soccer athletes.

Each Wednesday during the college regular season, United Soccer Coaches selects a men's and women's Player of the Week for NCAA Divisions I, II, and III and Junior College competition based on nominations from schools and conferences. Nominations are due every Tuesday by 10 a.m. CT to be considered. For more information on the awards click here.
