Women's Soccer: Jessica Gil Signs with Azusa Pacific

AZUSA, Calif. - Allan Hancock College women's soccer defender, Jessica Gil, has signed with Azusa Pacific University to continue her academic and athletic career next season.

"I chose APU because of the academic and athletic opportunities that they have to offer," Gil shared. "The women's soccer program has the high level of competition that I'm looking for. The coaching staff was honest and supportive throughout the entire recruiting process and I like how the team has a family-like environment. They've created a warm and welcoming community within the program that I'm very excited to be joining."

Gil is moving on after completing one season with the Bulldogs. The Santa Maria native, who was recognized as a First Team All-Conference honoree at the conclusion of the fall, was a critical piece to Hancock's backline defense that combined for eight shutouts and surrendered just 13 goals through 20 games. Prior to joining the AHC squad, Gil spent one season at Waldorf University in Iowa where she was a First Team All-League defender and an Academic All-Conference selection as a true freshman.

"My time here at AHC gave me the right tools to find success. I didn't think I was going to be playing soccer again at the college level after coming off of a knee injury," Gil added. "The coaches here at Hancock welcomed me with open arms and supported me throughout the season. Thanks to my coaches, teammates, family, and friends I was able to regain my confidence back for the sport and so much more!"

The Cougars are a Division II member of the NCAA and compete in the Pac West Conference.
