Cynthia Ramirez Named as National Junior College Player of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Allan Hancock College women's soccer sophomore, Cynthia Ramirez, has been honored as the United Soccer Coaches Association Junior College Women's Player of the Week for the week ending September 9th. This marks the second time that Ramirez has received the national nod after previously being named as an honoree last fall.

The award comes after the midfielder broke the single-game goals record by netting six shots against Porterville College on September 5th. Ramirez was also tabbed as the Northern Santa Barbara County Female Athlete of the Week, announced at the roundtable event on Monday, after notching 10 goals and three assists as the Bulldogs posted a perfect 3-0 record on the week. The women's soccer team is currently riding a four-game win streak, which includes four consecutive shutouts, and has registered 31 goals through the stretch.

The Arroyo Grande native has accumulated 17 goals on the season thus far, placing her at the top of the leaderboard for all women's soccer junior college athletes across the nation. She currently holds a six-goal advantage over all CCCAA competitors and is one goal ahead of Rock Valley's Anika Elgin (NJCAA DII) and Delta's Rhianna Schermerhorn (NJCAA DIII). Ramirez also sits atop the national junior college leaderboard for total points after tallying 40 through seven games. She is joined at the top spot by Elgin and is followed by Schermerhorn (34 points).

Each Wednesday during the college regular season, United Soccer Coaches selects a men's and women's Player of the Week for NCAA Divisions I, II, and III and Junior College competition based on nominations from schools and conferences. Nominations are due every Tuesday by 10 a.m. CT to be considered. For more information on the awards click here.
