Next Level: Annette Vargas Heading to Upper Iowa
FAYETTE, Iowa - Allan Hancock College midfielder, Annette Vargas, has committed to continuing her academic and athletic career at Upper Iowa University next season.
"I have always had a passion for playing the sport of soccer and Upper Iowa has given me a great opportunity to continue doing that while pursuing my degree in Psychology. I also think that Upper Iowa has what I need to further guide me in education and leadership," Vargas stated.
Vargas, a native of Nipomo, spent two seasons on the field in a Bulldogs uniform. She concluded her junior college career with 16 starts in 19 appearances and was recognized with a Second Team All-Conference nod after registering two goals and four assists. Vargas was credited with the game-winning goal on the road against Oxnard College in November to keep the conference title dream alive.
"My time here at AHC helped me understand the importance of leadership and attitude towards success. I went through a really tough time after suffering an ACL injury and it wasn't easy to come back after that. I was fortunate enough to have amazing athletic trainers, coaches, and teammates here that helped me through that very rough time," Vargas added. "As a student in the classroom, I was also very lucky to have some amazing professors who helped guide me through my academic success."
The Peacocks are a Division II member of the NCAA and compete in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
