Bramble Finishes 10th in 100 I.M. at State Championships with Two Events to Go
(Monterey Park, CA) Allan Hancock College freshman Leanna Bramble finished 10th in the women's 100-yard individual medley final during the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships on Thursday. East Los Angeles College is hosting the three-day State Meet.
Bramble swam in the second finals heat and finished second in the heat of eight women with a time of 1:02.25.The Orcutt Academy graduate is the lone representative of Hancock's inaugural women's swim team at the State Meet. She improved on her time during the morning's prelims (1:03.02) by 0.77 second to earn seven points for Hancock in the team standings. The Bulldogs are in 21st place after the first day.
Golden West's Melissa Bergesen won the event in 58.90 seconds.
The three-time Western State Conference champion will race in the 200 IM on Friday with the prelims in the morning and the final in the evening. Bramble's seed time of 2:13.59 ranks seventh in the field.
Her specialty event, the 100-yard breaststroke, will take place on Saturday. Bramble smashed the WSC record in the 100 breast by three seconds with a time of 1:06.41. She will enter the 100 breast with the fifth-fastest time in the field.
Bramble is competing less than a week after her mother lost her long battle with cancer. The 19-year old has dedicated her performance in memory of her mother.
