Kwong Wins Two Events, Finishes Second Overall at Season-Opening WSC Pentathlon

Freshman swimmer Alexandria Kwong won two individual events and placed second in two more during her Allan Hancock College debut on Saturday. Kwong finished second overall during the 2016 season opener, the Western State Conference Pentathlon hosted by Ventura College.

Swimmers completed five events and their times were added for an overall time. Kwong's combined time of 5:21.99 earned her a second place finish, 2.94 seconds behind the winner, Addison Seale of Santa Barbara City College.  More than 80 athletes competed in the first Western State Conference competition of the season.

Kwong swam the fastest times in the 100 yard backstroke (1:03.12) and in the 100 yard butterfly (1:01.92). She won each event by nearly one second. The Orcutt Academy graduate also finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.64) and the 100 individual medley (1:04.38). Kwong finished sixth in the 100 freestyle (58.96).

Freshman Rebecca Gonzalez, a Nipomo High School graduate, finished third in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.48.

Madalena Diaz, a Pioneer Valley High School graduate, placed eighth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:18.72. She also finished 18th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:12.29. The freshman was clocked in 1:11.60 in the 100 I.M. for a 15th place finish.

Hancock's next meet will be on March 4 during a five-team Western State Conference meet at L.A. Pierce. The Bulldogs will also compete against Bakersfield, Citrus and L.A. Valley.
