Kwong Wins Two Events, Hancock Swimming Finishes Second at WSC#2

Alexandria Kwong won two events, while Madalena Diaz and Rebecca Gonzalez posted two top three finishes each to lead the Allan Hancock College women's swim team to a second place finish out of five teams during the second Western State Conference meet of the season. Host Ventura won the meet, followed by Hancock, LA Valley, Bakersfield and Santa Monica.

The five-team meet opened with the Bulldogs taking the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:01.88. Kwong, Gonzalez, Nikki Gurgiolo and Diaz helped edge Ventura by 0.50 second.

Kwong took first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.41, and touched first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.32.

Diaz finished third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:11.64, about six seconds behind the winner from Bakersfield. The Pioneer Valley High School graduate also finished second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:36.90.

Gonzalez swam the 200-yard individual medley in 2:45.75 for a third place finish. The Nipomo High School graduate also broke her season-best time by two seconds to finish second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:12.43.
Hancock returns to action on Friday, April 1 when Cuesta hosts the a Western State Conference meet with the Bulldogs, Bakersfield, Santa Barbara and Ventura.
