Kwong Wins Two More Titles, Earns Conference Co-Swimmer of the Year
Alexandria Kwong set a conference record and finished with three individual conference titles. The Bulldogs finished fourth overall out of 10 programs, the highest-finish in program history.
Alexandria Kwong set a conference record, earned two more conference titles and was named Co-Swimmer of the Year on the final day of the Western State Conference Swimming Championships on Saturday at Cuesta College.
Kwong opened the evening session by winning the 200-yard backstroke in record time at 2:12.80. She improved her previous career-best time by nearly six seconds and broke the previous conference record by three seconds.
In her second event of the day, Kwong dominated the 200-yard butterfly final. She touched the wall in 2:20.25, which was nearly seven seconds ahead of the runner-up. Nikki Gurgiolo finished seventh in the final in 3:01.91 to earn 12 points for the Bulldogs.
Rebecca Gonzalez swam to a fourth place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a personal-best time of 2:36.25.
Kwong matched the program record set by Leanna Bramble in 2014 for most conference titles in a single-season with three. Kwong also became the second Bulldog in three years to be named the conference's Co-Swimmer of the Year (Bramble, 2014).
Hancock finished fourth overall in the team standings, the highest finish in the program's three-year history. The Bulldogs finished with 313 points, ahead of six programs: Cuesta, L.A. Valley, Canyons, Bakersfield, Citrus and Santa Monica. Santa Barbara City College defended its championship with 708 points. Ventura finished second with 583.5 points.
