Diaz and Kwong Earn Top-12 Finishes, Hancock Swimmings Finishes 14th at CCCAA State Championships

Sophomore Maddie Diaz and Dria Kwong earned top-12 finishes to cap a record-setting appearance at the CCCAA Swimming and Diving State Championships for the Allan Hancock College women's team Saturday at East Los Angeles College. The Bulldogs finished with 78 total points and in 14th place overall out of 47 teams, both broke program records at state.

Kwong competed in two events on Saturday. The Orcutt Academy graduate came in 11th place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:12.96. The sophomore later won the consolation final in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:14.70. Her ninth-place finish in state earned nine more points for the Bulldogs. Kwong medaled and finished fourth in the 100-butterfly final on Friday. All together, the six-time conference champion earned 30 points over the weekend.

Diaz finished 10th in the 1,650-yard freestyle final with a time of 18:37.16, about 50 seconds behind the winner. The Pioneer Valley High School graduate came in 14th in the 400-yard individual medley and 25th in the 500-yard freestyle earlier this weekend. Diaz earned a total of 10 points individually for the Bulldogs. 

Rebecca Gonzalez also finished 16th in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:38.83. 

Sierra College won the state title with 470 points. San Diego Mesa finished second with 322 points, followed by Santa Rosa with 310 and Santa Barbara City in fourth place with 269 points. Cuesta College came in eighth with 196 points. Ventura College finished 15th, one spot behind Hancock, with 74 points.
