Fraire Wins Three Events, Hancock Finishes Fifth at Cuesta Invitational
Fraire won three events and placed second in another, while three more Bulldogs earned top-four finishes.
Izzie Fraire won three events and finished second in another, while Helen Frazer, Kaila Guillemin, and Oceana Heath each turned in top-four performances to lead a contingent of Allan Hancock College women's swimmers during the 41st annual Cuesta College Swim Invitational. Sparked by their efforts, Hancock finished fifth overall in the two-day, 11-team meet.
Fraire won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:32.15, winning by a 10-second margin. She also won the 400-yard individual medley by seven seconds with a time of 4:49.31. The freshman placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a season-best time of 1:08.89, touching the wall nearly five seconds before the runner-up. The Righetti High School graduate finished second in the 200 IM by two seconds, touching the wall in 2:19.22. All together, Fraire accounted for 77 points for the Bulldogs.
Frazer earned 38 total points with three top-eight finishes. She placed fourth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:48.38 to earn 15 points. She also placed seventh in the 100 fly (1:08.24) and 100-yard individual medley (1:12.81).
Guillemin finished fourth in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 21:30.62. The Santa Ynez Valley native shaved off 61 seconds from her previous-best time to earn 15 points. She also finished 14th to earn three more points in the 500 free (6:27).
Heath racked up a total of 35 individual points. She finished second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:45.53 to earn 17 points. The Righetti product also claimed seventh in the 400 individual medley with a time of 5:54.61. The sophomore earned six more points for Hancock with a 15th-place showing in the 100 butterfly (1:17.03), and 13th-place finish in the 500 freestyle (6:25.44).
Freshman Anika Smith turned in two eighth-place finishes. She shaved 10 seconds off her best time in the 200-yard backstroke to place eighth in 2:40.39, and finished eighth in the 500 free in 6;16.79, nearly 29 seconds better than her previous fastest time. The Nipomo High School graduate also came in 16th in the 200 individual medley, besting her season-best by 21 seconds and finishing in 2:43.18.
The Bulldogs finished fifth out of 11 women's teams with 210 individual points and 144 relay points for a total of 354 points. Cuesta won the event with 682 points, followed by Bakersfield with 600, Clovis with 550, and Cypress with 390.
