Swimming: Men Place Second, Women Place Seventh at WSC #2

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Action continued for the Allan Hancock College men's and women's swimming teams at the second Western State Conference meet of the season on Saturday afternoon. | FULL RESULTS

The men's team finished with their best performance of the season and earned a runner-up slot after tallying 258 points through 29 events. Max Pecile headlined the day with 36 individual points after a 1st place finish in the 400-yard individual medley (4:20.16) and a 3rd place showing in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:22.20). Blake Simpson added 32 points with a 2nd place mark in the 1,650-yard freestyle (18:06.26) and a 4th place spot in the 200-yard backstroke (2:12.46), while Asa Marsalek chipped in with 31 points with solid production in the 200-yard butterfly (3rd | 2:11.97) and the 200-yard breaststroke (4th | 2:22.45). Jarred Torres rounded out the top individual performers with 30 points after a runner-up mark in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.35) and a 6th place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (51.00). Gabriel Clear, Torres, Marsalek, and Pecile also earned a 2nd place nod in the 400-yard freestyle relay after clocking a time of 3:28.66.

The women's team finished in 7th place after totaling 106 points through nine events. Lizzie Hernandez led the effort with a top performance in the 200-yard backstroke (2:22.84) and a runner-up finish in the 400-yard individual medley (5:06.82). Julia Zimsen tacked on 29 points after participating in the 200-yard backstroke (4th | 2:36.26) and the 400-yard individual medley (5th | 5:28.85). Jamielynn Allen added 12 points after a 7th place showing in the 200-yard freestyle (2:21.86). Allen, Zimsen, Hernandez, and Christina Duran also secured a 5th place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay after turning in a final time of 4:29.93.

The Bulldogs are set to return to action on Friday, April 1st, at the third Western State Conference meet. The event is scheduled to begin at 11 AM in Ventura, Calif.
