Swim Claims 10 Top-Ten Finishes at CCCAA State Championship
MONTEREY PARK, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College men's & women's swimming teams wrapped up the 2023 season by sending six individuals and four relay teams to compete in 21 events at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championship over the weekend. Despite only having two participants, the women's swim team placed 18th out of 35 competing programs after tallying 65 points. Emma Marsalek headlined the event with a trio of medal-winning performances, highlighted by a second place showing in the 1,650-yard freestyle race with a final time of 18:12.02. She also finished 3rd in the 400-yard individual medley (4:47.23) and was 4th in the 500-yard freestyle (5:18.14). Jada Brown took 9th place in both the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.86) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:18.00).
 
The men's team set a new high standard for the program with a 13th place finish after totaling 99 points in the field of 28. Max Pecile, a three-time WSC Champion this season, led the men's program with a 3rd place finish in the 400-yard individual medley (4:01.58). The Santa Ynez native also finished 6th in the 200-yard backstroke (1:52.82) and 7th in the 200-yard individual medley. Ryan Lacaste also had a top-ten finish in the 200-yard butterfly (9th | 1:59.22) to go along with a 14th place mark in the 400-yard individual medley (4:18.39). Jarred Torres finished just outside of the top rankings in the 1,650-yard freestyle, placing 11th (17:39.36), and was 16th in the 500-yard freestyle (4:53.95). Asa Marsalek rounded out the list of individual placements in the finals after finishing 14th (time) in the 1,650-yard freestyle. 
 
The men's 800-yard freestyle relay (Torres, Pecile, Lacaste, Marsalek) claimed 9th place after turning in a final time of 7:10.69. The 400-yard medley relay and the 200-yard medley relay - both of which featured Lacaste, Jericho Orcino, Pecile, and Torres - finished at 11th and 13, respectively.
