Men Take 12th & Women Finish 13th at Cuesta Invitational
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - A slew of school records were broken by the Allan Hancock College swimming & diving programs during a three-day outing at Cuesta College. The weekend of events opened with the Cuesta Sprint Meet on Thursday before action began with the 47th Cuesta Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
The men's program finished in 12th place out of 15 scoring programs with 122.5 points. Isaiah Lopez and Jerred DeTorres shined for the Bulldogs after posting a series of Western State Conference (WSC) leading times across several events. Lopez secured a 7th place slot in both the 1,650 Freestyle (18:50.11) and the 400 Individual Medley (4:50.83) events. DeTorres secured an 8th place finish in the 400 Individual Medley (4:52.43) and was 9th in the 100 Breastroke (1:06.07).
The women's team took 13th out of 19 scoring programs with 146 points. Noemi Bravo Guzman highlighted the outing as the top scorer amongst all participants after securing top finishes in all events that she swam over the weekend while setting new school records in the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Individual Medley. On Thursday, the local product won the 50 Freestyle at the Sprint Challenge while finishing through four rounds with a new school record of 24.13. This breaks her previous school record of 24.55, which was set in 2024 at the SRJC Invitational.
Bravo Guzman was also the top finisher in the 200 Backstroke (2:06.75), 100 Freestyle (53.05), 200 Individual Medley (2:09.67), 400 Individual Medley (4:42.18), and the 100 Individual Medley (1:00.43). Her time in the 100 IM sets a new school record, breaking the record of 1:04.42 set by Leanna Bramble in 2014. Bravo Guzman was the lone medalist for the women's program throughout the weekend.
The Bulldogs are set to continue competition at the WSC #2 meet, hosted by Santa Monica College, on March 15th.
