Track & Field Competes at WSC Coastal Meet
VENTURA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College track & field programs continued the spring season by competing at the annual Western State Conference (WSC) Coastal Meet, hosted by Ventura College, on Friday. A small group of individuals were also on display at the Mark Conover Classic, hosted by Cal Poly (SLO), on Saturday afternoon.
Abigail Aponte headlined the women's side in Ventura with a pair of first place finishes in the hammer throw (35.34m) and shot put (11.16m) while also taking second in javelin (23.42m) and third in the discus (31.80m). Makayla Gonzalez also secured a top-three spot in the 1,500-meter race (5:12.98).
The men's team saw an AHC sweep in the discus with Jacob Garbiso taking first (39.60m), Chris Sapey earning second (32.39m), and Esequiel Gauna finishing third (31.26m). Garbiso picked up two additional top finishes in the shot put (13.33m) and the hammer throw (33.26m).
At the Mark Conover Classic, Juan Santiago broke the school record for the men's 3,000-meter event with a final time of 8:54.43. This tops the previous record of 8:54.63 set by John Gutierrez earlier this season.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on April 4th at the Moorpark Invitational.
