Bulldogs Pull Out Five-Set Thriller in Home Opener Against San Bernardino

Behind 10 kills from both Alyse Carson and Taylor Nevitt, the Allan Hancock College women's volleyball team won a five-set battle with visiting San Bernardino Valley College 3-2 on Thursday in Joe White Memorial Gymnasium. The Bulldogs took the first two sets 25-18 and 25-20 before the Wolverines evened the match by taking the next two sets 25-18 and 25-20 to force a fifth and decisive set. The Bulldogs took the fifth set 15-13 to win their home opener and snap a five-game losing streak.

Hancock improved to 2-6, while San Bernardino dropped to 1-8.

Nevitt, a freshman middle blocker and Nipomo High School graduate, added four assists, eight digs and one block to her 10 kills. Carson, a freshman outside hitter and Orcutt Academy graduate, set a career high with 10 kills and added nine digs.

Lompoc High School graduates Chyanne Thomas racked up nine kills and 11 digs, while Brittany Bolusan added eight kills and a career-high four blocks.

Sophomore Cristine Flores also recorded a career-high 31 digs besting her previous mark by five. Setter Rebecca Davis, a Lompoc High School graduate, dished out 34 assists and had 16 digs.

Freshman outside hitter Jourdan Reynolds fired a career-high eight aces for the Bulldogs.

After the thrilling victory, Hancock hits the road for a match at Santa Monica on Friday, Sept. 25, before hosting West L.A. on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 6 p.m.
