Women's Cross Country: Bulldogs Sweep WSC Superlative Coaching Awards

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - After resurrecting the team and leading the Allan Hancock College women's cross country program through a highly decorated campaign, the coaching staff for the Bulldogs has swept the Western State Conference superlative awards.

Steven Youngblood was selected as the Coach of the Year in his first season at the helm while Kenna Wolter was tabbed as the Assistant Coach of the Year. This marks yet another first for the program in a milestone year as no previous AHC coach had received the league nod on the women's side of cross country in the WSC dating back to 1980.

The coaching duo led the AHC squad to top-five finishes in eight of their nine meets, including a runner-up team performance at the WSC Finals in October where five athletes earned All-Conference honors. The second place finish at the championship event is another milestone for the team as the previous program-best placement while competing in the WSC was fifth in 1981. The trio of conference titles that the team claimed over three decades ago (1988, 1991, 1992) came when the Bulldogs competed as members of the Coast Valley Conference.

The Bulldogs closed out the season at the 3C2A State Championship at Woodward Park, where they took sixth place through 23 scoring programs while placing two individuals on the All-State list.
