The Bulldogs prevailed over the Chaffey College Panthers in the first round of the state playoffs last weekend, earning a spot in the California Community College Athletic Association Super Regional Tournament May 14-16.

Allan Hancock College beat Chaffey 9-8 in the first game of the series on May 7, before falling to the Panthers 2-3 on Saturday, May 8. The third game went into extra innings and ended with a winning score of 19-14. With their win over fourth seeded Chaffey, the 13th seeded Bulldogs advance to Super Regional tournament for the first time since 1993.

“I’m excited for our program and for our players to get this chance to play in the Super Regionals,” said Hancock head coach Chris Stevens.

The four-team, double-elimination tournament begins with Hancock taking on Cypress College at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 14, at El Camino College in Torrance, Calif. Cypress finished third in the tough Orange Empire Conference with a 13-8, 22-14 record. In the 2010 pre-season, the Bulldogs spilt with Cypress, with a 7-2 win and 1-14 loss.

Palomar College finished second in the Pacific Coast Conference and went 17-8 in conference, 22-13 overall.

The winner of the region two Super Regional tournament will advance along with the region one champion to the State Finals to compete against teams from Northern California. The region one tournament will take place at Santa Ana College May 14-16 and includes host Santa Ana, Rio Hondo College, Bakersfield College and Cuesta College.
