Twelve Hancock Baseball Players Named All-Conference

    Recognized as the best defensive players in the conference at their position, all four of the Allan Hancock College baseball team’s starting infielders were named Gold Glove winners this week for the 2010 season. First basemanSkyler Ellis (Buellton, CA), second basemanChris Mallory (Lompoc, CA), shortstopDalton Rouleau (Lompoc, CA), and third basemanPeter Straka (Eugene, OR) received the honor. Both Mallory and Ellis were also Gold Glove Winners in 2009. 

    The Bulldogs were well represented overall on the All-Western State Conference 2010 baseball team, with twelve players making the list. Straka and Mallory were named to the WSC first team along with outfielder J.P. Maestas (Santa Maria, CA) and pitcher Jacob Valenzuela (Bakersfield, CA)
    
    Straka ended the regular season with a .393 batting average and had 46 hits, while Mallory led the Bulldogs in runs with 38. Maestas finished the regular season with 21 runs, 35 hits and 22 RBI’s. Valenzuela finished 4-2 overall and 4-0 with two saves in conference and allowed only 44 hits and 19 runs. 

    Four Hancock players were named to the WSC second team: Ellis, second base; Chris Rivera (Santa Maria, CA), outfield; Chuck Buchanan (Las Vegas, NV), pitcher; and Cody Berryman (Lompoc, CA), pitcher. Dylan Young (Las Vegas, NV),Austin Nyman (Reno, NV) and Brandon Creath (Santa Maria, CA)received Honorable Mention. 

    The Bulldogs start the first round of playoffs May 7, at Chaffey College at 2 p.m. This is the second time in two seasons that the Bulldogs have qualified for state playoffs.
