Baseball Team Beats Santa Barbara in Extra Innings

    The Allan Hancock College baseball team held a 2-0 lead going into the ninth inning thanks to runs scored by Jacob Cano (St. Joseph) in the seventh and Mitchel Hollingsworth (Arroyo Grande)in the eighth but Santa Barbara came back with two runs in the top of the ninth, taking the game to extra innings. 

    After a scoreless 10th inning, the Vaqueros had two hits and one run in the top of the 11th and the Bulldogs took to the plate for their last chance to take the win. It was a true team effort as Taylor Mowatt (Righetti) started the inning off with a single and Nicholas Taitague (Lompoc ) went into the game to run for Mowatt. River Stevens (Mission Hills) singled next and Cano walked to load the bases for the Bulldogs. Mike Foley was hit by a pitch next and earned an RBI as Taitague scored. Hollingsworth hit a single, sending Stevens to homeplate and earning an RBI. Hancock beat Santa Barbara 4-3. Joe Perez pitched eight innings and Codey Shrider finished the game, earning a win.

The team has improved to 12-19 overall and 7-8 in conference play. Hancock plays at home on Friday, April 20 at 1 p.m. against Oxnard College.
