No.3 Bulldogs Fall at Home 4-2 to Canyons

College of the Canyons scored the first three runs of the game and the Bulldogs could not catch up as the Allan Hancock College baseball team lost for the first time this season at home 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon. The Bulldogs who climbed to No.3 in the Southern California Regional poll fell to 10-3. Canyons improved to 4-8.

Hancock will look to get back on track and even the home and away series on Thursday at Canyons.

Hancock starter Jesse Posey allowed a run in the first inning and two more in the second. After Hancock got two runs back in the bottom of the second, Canyons pushed another run across in the fourth against Posey.

The freshman, who was making his second start of the season, dropped to 0-2. He allowed six hits, four earned runs, four walks and struck out three in 3 1/3 innings. Matt Shackley threw 2 2/3 innings of shutout relief allowing just one hit to go with one strikeout.

Nathan Thompson threw three perfect innings of relief to close the game for the Bulldogs. He struck out four and retired all nine batters he faced.

Hancock's two runs came in the second off the bat of Jacob Witkowski, who doubled home Cameron Ketchen and Zach Nyman. The Bulldogs outhit Canyons 10 to seven. Witkowski, Brooks Fages and Nyman had two hits apiece. Felipe Gonzalez, Ron Regalado, Ryan Bendele and Ketchen collected one hit each.

The Bulldogs put two runners on in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings. But they could not collect the big hit to push a run across. They left 12 runners on base in the game.

Ryan Cruz earned the win for Canyons with a seven inning effort. He struck out six, walked five and scattered seven hits. He allowed two runs. Ryan Paramo earned the save with two shutout innings.
