Bower Throws Three-Hit Shutout, Bulldogs Blank Cuesta 5-0

Ryan Bower threw a three-hit shutout and struck out eight as the Allan Hancock College baseball team defeated Cuesta 5-0 on Saturday at John Osborne Field. The Bulldogs won the season series against their rivals 3-1.

The Bulldogs, who are ranked ninth in the Southern California Regional Poll, evened their Western State Conference mark at 6-6 and improved to 16-9-1.  Cuesta fell to 2-10 in league and 6-19 for the season.
Bower, a sophomore and Lompoc High School graduate, scattered three hits and issued eight walks. The right-hander struck out eight Cougars to improve to 6-2 on the season. 

Felipe Gonzalez broke open a scoreless game with a RBI-double in the third inning to score Evan Aguilar, who led off the inning with a base hit. Ryan Welker later scored on wild pitch, while Gonzalez crossed the plate when Ryan Bendele reached on an error by the shortstop to cap a three-run inning.

Angel Gonzalez padded Hancock's lead with a two-run single in the fifth that plated Welker and Felipe Gonzalez.

The Bulldogs finished with six hits led by three from Felipe Gonzalez. The Santa Ynez High School graduate had two singles, a double, a walk and scored twice.

Hancock returns to action on Tuesday, April 1, at Santa Barbara. The Bulldogs host the Vaqueros on Thursday and Oxnard on Saturday.
